Who is ATL?

"True love is unconquerable and irresistible, and it will go on gathering
power and spreading itself until it transforms everyone it touches."
  - Meher Baba

Above the Line (ATL) Leadership is co-created by a consortium of life coaches, change management trainers and transformational leaders: Ann Betz, CPCC; Tom Courry M.A., M.S.U.; and Ursula Pottinga, CPCC. Learn about their past and present lives here.

Picture_3 Ann Betz, CPCC, The Center for Above the Line Living, has both a passion and a gift for making teachings and theory real, understandable and powerfully applicable in day-to-day life. A certified coach and experienced trainer, Ann is the co-founder and former executive director of the non-profit organization AmeriCoach, which provides leadership development and training for young leaders engaged in community service. Over the past seven years, Ann has developed and led numerous workshops on using coaching skills in the workplace, effective leadership, the power of living from love instead of fear, trusting your inner wisdom, and creativity. She has worked extensively with non-profit organizations, school districts, and volunteer programs on strategic planning, team building, and leadership. Since 2005, she has lived in Costa Rica with her family, where she coaches, leads retreats, and is writing a book about living above the line. Visit Ann’s website at centerforall; email is ann.betz@gmail.com.

Picture_1_2 Tom Courry, M.A., M.S.U., The Next Level, believes that through using processes which actively engage people in their learning experience, a deep memory and strength occurs that stays with participants and helps them integrate their learning into their lives. He has designed and led team and leadership programs for corporate groups, work teams and at-risk populations. Tom’s unique ability to bring people present in the moment—out of their heads and into their bodies—opens them to a new dimension of awareness from which they can transform their lives and relationships. Although Tom consults and coaches with organizations internationally, he lives in Sonoma County, California. Visit Tom’s website at tnextlevel; email him at tomc@tnextlevel.com.

•••••••••••••••

The wise leader’s ability does not rest on techniques or  gimmicks or set exercises... The leader’s personal state of consciousness creates a climate of openness. Because the leader sees clearly, the leader can shed light on others.

                                                                       - John Heider, The Tao of Leadership

WHAT: Above The Line Leadership Learning Lab: A Year in Exploration
WHEN: COMING IN 2009

Above the Line Leadership Learning Lab—a year-long exploration––is a series of four residential retreats throughout 2009 based on a powerful idea: co-creation. In addition to the core Above the Line curriculum, The Learning Lab will encourage ATL leaders and participants alike to co-create the ultimate learning experience together, to harness the organic nature of in-the-moment challenges and real-time application.

The Program:
Imagine exploring positive, heart-centered leadership with a small group (approx. 20) of committed peers. The four weekend retreats (Thursday to Sunday), spaced over the course of a year, will give you the chance to recognize and build on your innate leadership capacities and gifts. The format is highly experiential, respectful and engaging. We believe in involving the total person in the learning—mind, body and spirit.  Each retreat will focus on a new aspect or challenge in leadership, building on the previous work and culminating in a celebratory wrap-up at a tranquil beach resort in Costa Rica in December.

Retreat One—Tools and Skills for the Above the Line Leader

Retreat Two—The Being of an Above the Line Leader

Retreat Three—Unleashing Creativity and Power

Retreat Four—Integrating Above the Line Leadership into Your Organization

Additional Learning:
- In addition to the retreats, you'll also receive ongoing individual coaching with one of the three leaders, to deepen and personalize your development as a leader. Research into coaching and staff development has shown that the most effective, sustainable growth occurs when classroom work is combined with personal coaching. All three leaders have extensive experience coaching on a wide range of personal and professional issues, including leadership, life balance and personal challenges.

- Hands-on application projects in between all retreats. This homework is designed to deepen and put into practice the skills and insights gained at the retreats. The projects will be aligned with your current work opportunities and challenges.

- A supportive community of peers. Monthly group conference calls for learning and support.
